Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil, cling to what is good (Romans 12:9).

Love does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth (1 Corinthians 13:6).

Biblical love is not an empty sentimentalism but is anchored deeply in the truths of Scripture and regulated by it. Love is not blind but perceptive, and it carefully scrutinizes to distinguish between right and wrong, good and evil. Many think that if we love, we shouldnt hate anything, but that's just sentimentality. Paul makes it clear that "love does not rejoice at wrongdoing."

Someone who is truly born again will have a growing sensitivity and hatred towards the sin they once loved and a growing love towards the righteousness they once scoffed at. If we are to love the holy, pure, true things of God, by virtue of that, we must hate the evil, sinful, false things of this world. In other words, true love is sincere. We cannot love holiness without hating all that contradicts holiness. God's love is a just and righteous love. He is perfect and consistent in all His attributes, including His love. It is impossible for God to love sin and evil since God is light, and there is no darkness in Him at all (1 John 1:5). We cannot sincerely love the things of God if we also love the things God hates or are entertained by the things for which Jesus died. Our love must be sincere too if we want a biblical definition of love, which is the only real definition of true love. It is God's definition of love, not our own made up one. Love is not merely a feeling or an emotion. Rather, true love is an action, and it rejoices in truth and righteousness.

“Someone once told me, 'God doesn’t hate, God is love!' No, my friend, God is love, therefore God must hate. If I love life, then I must hate death. If I love babies, then I must hate abortion. If I love Jews, then I must hate the Holocost. If I love African Americans, then I must hate slavery. If you truly do love that which is right, that which is perfect, that which is good, there is also an animosity, an enmity, against all that, that contradicts that standard. God loves all that is right, all that is true, all that is good, all that is virtuous, but Scripture after Scripture after Scripture tells us that His hatred is manifest against wickedness.” - Paul Washer

8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. 1 John 4:8-9

Sincere love can only come as a product of God's grace. It's a reflection of Jesus' sacrifice for us. When God's love shapes the life of a believer, our words and actions will overflow with that love that is in our hearts.
